Very cool concept. I love the "spring" effect or whatever that you have given various parts of their bodies. Makes it look like they're unravelling or something. I also really like the lighting. I've been very in to dramatic lighting myself lately. Only one thing I can think of...Where is the light source? I realize this is a surreal piece so things aren't always what they seem or whatever. But if the light is supposed to be emanating from the apple(?), it's a little off. The light source appears to be shining down on the models rather than at the level of the apple thing. If the light is shining down, you might consider more shadowing at the bottom of the apple. If the light is supposed to be comnig from the apple itself, you might tweak the lighting on your models so the portions of their bodies that are above the reach of the apple light are darkened instead of lightened. I realize in a surreal piece (well, any art for that matter ) you have artisitic liberty, but that's just the suggestion I have. Overall this piece is very intriguing and well done, and I just love the peeling/swirly effect

Very clean work. This is simple, yet elegant. The position the bodies are in support that. As allison712 said, "Makes it look like they're unravelling or something." - I definitely agree with that. And the touch of color in the middle works well. Keep it up!

The not quite symmetry is pleasing on the eye, as are the gentle gradients and the soft colours of the apple. They reflect the soft curves of the body well and the gentle unravelling 'eel'.
However I think over all it's just too gentle. I would like a little more contrast, a little more definition. Grunging up the backdrop would make the smooth figures pop a little more, as would sharpening the edges and making them really distinct. Or you could tint the background very slightly - as the figures do have a hint of peach to them, you could oppose that with a hint of sky blue in the background. Adding clouds would reference quite a few surreal artists quite neatly too.
Hope that was okay for you

Love exceeds the boundaries of reality,
And overpowers the soul into unwillingness.
